Many Americans have trouble separating Islam, the religion, from Islamic radicals, those who follow extremist views of the faith and sometimes resort to terrorism to achieve political and religious goals, said Connie Ryan Terrell, executive director of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.

The Pew Center poll showed 82 percent of Muslim Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in their lives, and 79 percent rate the communities in which they live as excellent or good. Muslim Americans are more satisfied with the direction of the country than the general public is, 56 percent to 23 percent, the Pew poll said.     more
