Ancient Myths of Viking Life

“These are the cultural stories that really shaped Scandinavia,” says Jill Johnson of the Nordic Arts Alliance, which is bringing in the speaker.
Johnson says that while Gisladottir is billed as a storyteller who shares myths, the stories aren’t necessarily pure fiction and she tells them in some historical context.
Johnson hopes the storytelling event helps educate people on what life was actually life for Vikings.
“We have such stereotyped views of Vikings with horned helmets, and that’s so not the case,” she says. “It was brutal, but it was a very nuanced society with interesting ways of viewing the world.”
Similarly, she says the talk offers a deeper look back into Norse culture. more…
